iOS 8.4 is going to be released at 8 am, this Tuesday. According to my own experience, whenever it comes to updating to a new iOS operating system, problems and issues exist such as data loss or update failure. Here, we have some tips to share with all of you so as to update your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch to iOS 8.4 successfully and safely.
Check out whether you iPhone or iPad are compatible with iOS 8.4.
Please note iOS 8.3 is available as a free upgrade for the following iOS devices:
- iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5 and iPhone 4s
- iPad Air, iPad 4, iPad 3 and iPad 2
- Retina iPad mini, 1st gen iPad mini
- 5th generation iPod touch
Have a full-scale and complete backup before update to iOS 8.4.
Although the system will backup your data when updating, it is necessary for you to have a full-scale and complete backup in case of data loss during the update process. You can use iCloud or iTunes to have a complete backup. Both are available but maybe take a little time. Once some data are lost in the process of update, if you have an iTunes or iCloud backup, you still have the chance to restore those lost data via iFonebox.
Make sure your iPhone or iPad in full power.
During the update process, it takes more time to update to iOS 8.4. Thus, make sure your iPhone is in full power.
Make sure your iPhone or iPad has enough storage to update.
Before update to iOS 8.4, you should confirm that your iPhone or iPad has enough space to finish the whole update process. Otherwise, you have to delete some data from your iOS device in order to save more space for a successful update.
Choose a way to update to iOS 8.
Here, you can choose to update to iOS 8.4 via OTA(Over The Air) or iTunes. The first one is much easier. Go to Settings>General>About >Software Update. When using iTunes to update, make sure you have downloaded and installed the newest version of iTunes.
Wish you a successful update to iOS 8.4.
