Just checked with Apple, a trackpad repair would cost $150 CAD. I’ll probably go with that, then either use it or sell it for a new MacBook Air, or maybe give it to Apple Giveback for money towards a new Mac.
Trade in your eligible device for an apple store gift card or a refund on your purchase. If your device isn’t eligible for credit, Apple will recycle it for free. No matter the model or condition, they can turn it into something good for you and good for the planet.
What to do before you trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch?
- Back up your device
If you back up your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you’ll have a copy of your information to use in case your device is ever replaced, lost, or damaged. If you need an alternative backup, you can make one in iCloud and another in iTunes. But I would strong recommend you iFonebox. It’s a professional iOS backup tool which enables you to transfer up to 17 file types from devices to your computer selectively, like contacts, notes, text messages, safari bookmarks, call history, reminders, calendar events, WeChat data, WhatsApp data and so forth.
- Remove your personal information
- If you paired an Apple Watch with your iPhone, unpair your Apple Watch
- Sign out of iCloud and the iTunes & App Store
- Turn off Find My iPhone, you might need to enter your Apple ID and password
- Go back to Settings and tap General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings
Note: When you tap Erase All Content and Settings, it completely erases your device, including any credit or debit cards you added for Apple Pay and any photos, contacts, music, or apps. It will also turn off iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, Game Center, and other services. Your content won’t be deleted from iCloud when you erase your device
- If you’re switching to a non-Apple phone, deregister iMessage
- Contact your carrier for help transferring service to a new owner
